Provenance: This is from a belt from the region of Nahuala. The diamonds within a diamond is to the Maya as the cross is to Christianity. It symbolises the four cardinal directions of the Earth - North, South, East and West. The smaller ones also symbolise grains of maise which symbolise the body of mankind as told by the Mayan creation story. The zig zags symbolise the mountains which characterise the landscape of this highland region.
